66th Golden Globe Red Carpet

As you may know, it is award season. Now that the Golden Globe of 2009 has come to an end, let's take a look at what the stars were wearing!

To be honest, after reviewing the pictures of the red carpet, I am more disappointed than impressed. Despite the fact that there are some nice dresses, they are not exactly breath-taking. Seems like the stars are not willing to take risks this year.

Some of my favorites are:

1. Kate Beckinsale - Her white mermaid like J. Mendel strapless evening gown is fabulous, especially she spices it up with a pair of huge garnet teardrop earrings which totally complete the whole outfit.

2. January Jones - The look is very old hollywood glamour. With her baby blue satin Versace, her blond hair, and porcelain skin, January easily stands out in a crowd. I particularly love the fact that the dress is not too overstated, yet it has great details

3. Olivia Wilde - The Lavender Reem Acra gown is romantic and feminine. The pastel colour gives a great contrast to Olivia's tan skin which absolutely complement her, whereas the ruffle makes it girly too.

4. Drew Barrymore (minus the hair) - The sky-blue Christian Dior Couture gown accentuated her ivory skin, however, what is up with the hair? She looks like she just rolled out of bed and say "oops, I'm gonna be late for Golden Globe."

5. Marie-Louise Parker - The bright blue Carlos Miele gown is eccentric and the fish-scale like design enhanced Ms. Parker's shape.

6. Anne Hathaway - Anne's midnight blue Armani Privé gown is simple and classic, but not much "wow" factor. A very safe choice for Ms. Hathaway.

7. Isla Fisher - Isla made a great example of "smile is the greatest accessory of all." Although her asymmetric one-shouldered Carlos Miele gown wasn't spectacular, it is sensational on her.

8. Melissa George - This Armani dress is sophisticated with a little twist, the black detailing looks like it's made of plastic which gives it a futuristic finish.

9. Evan Rachel Wood - Dark sequins Elie Saab dress and the plunging neckline make Evan looks goth, glam, and sexy.

10. Laura Linney - Laura's one-shoulder Elie Saab buttery yellow gown with the right amount of crystal on the waist is both subtle and stunning.

Chanel to cut 200 jobs in France

You'd know the economy is bad when the fashion giant house - Chanel is planning to cut 200 jobs, which is about 10 percent of its production team, in France by December 31, 2008.

Actually, Chanel is not the only one that is experiencing the economy turmoil. Louis Vuitton was planning to open its 12-story store in Tokyo has ceased its construction plan. More importantly, the ever increasing price of luxury goods not only did not increase this season, but it in fact went on sale. Unfortunately, even with the discounted price tag, it doesn't really help the plummeted sales.

Although the news may seem worrying, I wouldn't be so pessimistic about the future of luxury goods industry. From what I see, the sales of grandeur handbags may be lagging, it could never lose its loyal customers since the industry is all about indulgence. We may not have a great deal of money to purchase a house or a sports car, we could always take comfort in couture or a pair of stilettos to help us overcome current sluggish economy.

Of course it is just my own personal view, I'd love to know what you think =)

R.M. Williams by Catherine Martin

Although I am not interested in checking out the film "Australia", starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, I still couldn't resist the temptation of its good fashion.

Catherine Martin is the costume designer for Australia, she recently collaborated with R.M. Willams, an Australian outdoor brand which is famous for its unique bushwear design, and designed her first collection.

There is a piece in her collection that I really want to get my hands on, that is the Berry Springs Blouse. I have been searching for a perfect bow neck shirt for a long time, this one is purely to die for. Although it is made with a very feminine textile, chiffon, the blouse is very structured and the cut is clean which gives a slight masculinity to it. The buttons are also very intricately placed. All in all, this blouse is without a doubt divine.

The whole collection can be seen and purchased here

Into the Wild (2007)

Into the Wild is one of the movies that I've seen lately. It is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, directed by Sean Penn.

To tell you the truth, under normal circumstances, I probably wouldn't notice this film. However, I'm wonderful that I stumbled upon it. Not only the plot is intriguing, Emile Hirsch, as Chris, is simply brilliant.

I especially love the last scene where the protagonist, Chris, watched the sun that was breaking out from the cloud right before his imminent death. The emotion was so powerful that I am sure anyone who has seen it would be deeply affected as I did.

Enough said, I strongly suggest the film to anyone who wants a break from all the commercial, artificial surroundings and go on an emotional journey with Christopher to explore the true beauty of nature.
